In December 2000: SIG Leader Larry Linson talked about
some unobvious lessons he learned while working on A Simple HTML
Editor in Access to prepare these SIG notes. His conclusion was
that you can write a text editor in Access, but there are better
software tools for writing text editors. The PowerPoint presentation and
the EditHTML.MDB example database can be found at the Application
Developer Issues SIG’s
Download Page.
In November 2000: Tom Browning, whose presentation had
been deferred not once but twice, gave a great presentation on using
other Office software from Access, specifically Microsoft Outlook via
COM automation. He presented three methods, a Function in a standard
Module, that same Function with its parameters as the sole method of a
Class, and that Class modified to use Properties and Methods in the way
we normally thing of using Objects. You can get Tom’s code from
the NTPCUG Application Developer Issues SIG Site.
In October 2000: Guest Speaker Adam Cogan gave us a
two-hour introduction to XML, an outstanding presentation. Adam is a
principal of Superior Software of Sydney, Australia, President of
the Sydney SQL Server, Access, VB, and .ASP User Group, and a
frequent featured speaker at Microsoft product rollouts and other
events. You can get Adam’s presentation at
the NTPCUG Application Developer Issues SIG Site. Additional
information and downloads are available from
Superior Software.
